A phobia is a fear that has become irrational and uncontrollable. It might have started with a personal experience, or by observing the experience of others. The majority of fears and phobias appear to be caused by inappropriate learning - our unconscious protective mechanism is triggered by something it recognises as connected with the original learning experience, which we have locked away or "forgotten." Result? The instinctive Fight or Flight response wired into our systems to protect us from danger - which we identify as a panic attack. Although it occasionally happens to us in adult life, most locked away emotions occur when we are younger, and our immature minds are unable to deal with all the different emotions we experience. It often takes many years after this happens for the phobia to develop. Something triggers the original emotions. The feelings and panic felt when suffering a response to a phobia is the mind’s way of protecting a person from a dangerous situation, but the danger belongs to the past, not the present.
There are two ways Christine deals with a phobia. If the phobia is deep rooted, then she uses hypno-analysis. This therapy works on the ‘cause and effect’. The phobia is a symptom, so there must be a cause. If you don’t know what the cause is, then it is deep rooted and Hypnosis is ideal at finding and removing it. A recent client with a fear of dogs thought she knew the original event which caused it, but analysis uncovered an earlier event in childhood, and the fear disappeared in one session. A small boy with a fear of thunderstorms knew the event which had caused it, but not the reason why it had had such an effect on him. In this case a combination of hypno-analysis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) successfully put an end to his fear. In some cases, NLP alone can bring an end to the fear or phobia in a single session.Hypno-analysis is also the most effective technique to address anxiety.
